Why you should hire good people rather than the most experienced, says this tech CEO

Hiring the most experience people isn’t always the key to creating the best team, according to the CEO of tech company Transreport, Jay Shen. Here’s what he says you should look for instead.

What qualities should you look out for when assembling a dream team at work?

Jay Shen, the founder and CEO of U.K.-based start-up Transreport, says the most important trait may not be a candidate’s stellar resume or technical expertise.

Instead, it’s having a passion for what they do.

“What I mean by good people, is somebody who really cares about the project, is really passionate about what we do, and is really willing to work with the team,” Shen told CNBC’s My Biggest Lessons.

He added that while these people may lack specific work experience or technical know-how, they are willing to put in the effort to learn “because they care.”

“And nothing will give you more pleasure when you see the individual really grow and thrive in that position. And they will support each other, bringing a better future for the whole organization going forward,” he said.
