FHSAA releases final high school football assignments for next 2 years
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida High School Athletic Association has finalized its district and classification assignments for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 football seasons, with very few teams moving from their initial positions that were released last month.
The most notable changes were Suwannee moving up from Class 2A and into District 2-3A with Baker County, Godby and Wakulla. Crescent City dropped from Class 2A and into 5-1A.
The FHSAA board of directors voted last month to get rid of the two-year Metro-Suburban playoff system and return to an enrollment-based system. The debate and all-around confusion around the vote left many who watched the discussion play out in real time shaking their heads at yet another change.
The state’s largest eight counties (Broward, Duval, Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Seminole) were grouped in the Metro, while Suburban and Rural were in the other classifications.
The FHSAA has lost a number of schools to the Sunshine State Athletic Association, something detailed by the USA Today Network’s Jon Santucci. That league began in 2008 with eight schools and is closing in on 100 who will play football in 2024.
